Despite some injury disruption in the build-up to the game, Blackpool named a strong side and loaned players to the visitors, who arrived from east Lancashire with only 10.

Blackpool were soon threatening and strong scrummaging by Stuart Charnock and Dave Donald resultted in a try for number eight Daniel Komosinski.

Komosinski’s second was almost a carbon-copy, Mick Harrison this time adding the extras to make it 12-0.

Blackpool strengthened their grip as a great pass off the deck by Leon Mason resulted in full-back Gordon Richmond sending James Carty diving in at the corner.

They continued to threaten with every attack as Louis Shelton’s offload saw the ball swept along the backline for Paul Vuti to stretch over.

Despite great defensive work from the on-loan Blackpool players, Colne were 27-0 down at half-time after scrum-half Carl Reynolds sprinted down the blind side to score following strong runs by Tristan Ainscough and Niall Crane.

After half-time Colne camped on the Blackpool line only for the hosts’ Ashley Swarbrick to make a 70-metre break. A penalty try was awarded because Swarbrick was ruled to have been tackled while in the act of scoring.

The tries continued, though, as Carty raced in for his second after excellent carries by Dean Finegan and Chris Parlour. Blackpool looked like scoring every time they touched the ball and Richmond’s converted try, after good work by Shelton and Vuti, took them into the 40s.

That became 50 when Blackpool kept the ball alive well for Swarbrick’s second.

And that soon became a hat-trick from Clark’s long, raking pass.

Clark created the final try too, sending Vuti over for his second, and the scoreline would have been even greater had Blackpool converted more than three of their 11 tries, though credit to Colne for refusing to give up .

Reynolds led the way in both defence and attack to win the man of the match award, while Komisinski was named September’s player of the month.

Blackpool will bid to maintain their fantastic start and make it five wins in a row in Saturday’s match at second-placed Garstang.
