They can’t stay on court, but by staying online the girls at Wyre Netball Club are able to carry on training.

The Thornton-based club has been delivering digital training sessions for its 200-plus members thanks to technology and a little imagination.

The players have swapped the court for their gardens and the club’s team of nine coaches have adapted their sessions, enabling the girls to make use of everyday household items, with support from their parents and siblings.

Using a shared video platform, members from the club’s teams aged four to 16 have been able to see all of their team-mates and coaches.

Besides these training sessions, the club have also been delivering strength and conditioning sessions digitally with gym partners Fortitude Fitness.

They have also created daily challenges focused on positive mental health and well-being, including motivational videos from Jodie Gibson, a member of the England team which won Commonwealth Games gold in 2018, and Laura Malcolm, a three-time Super League champion with Manchester Thunder.

Wyre’s head coach Abby Pridmore said: “We’ve been trying to make sessions as fun and creative as possible using everyday products, tools and furniture found in most households to supplement sessions and drills.

“The girls have been brilliant at being flexible and creative, and it has certainly improved all of their listening skills!

“We’ve seen the whole family get involved in sessions and it’s really helped to keep us all connected.”
