Fleetwood Town boss Graham Alexander has moved to boost his firepower - securing the return of Wolves youngster Liam McAlinden until the end of the season in a move he dubbed a ‘no-brainer’.

McAliden proved a big hit on his first spell at Highbury, playing five games for Town and scoring two goals.

He was recalled to Molineux following Fleetwood’s defeat at Preston North End in October as the West Midlands club faced a striker crisis.

Since then he has seen regular appearances off the bench, making his last outing in the black and gold on Tuesday, starting against Fulham in Wolves FA Cup defeat,

McAlinden is available for Saturday’s clash with Oldham Athletic and is likely to go straight into the squad

Town have a vacancy on the bench following the departure of Matty Blair who has joined League Two Mansfield Town.

Fleetwood boss Graham Alexander admits Town had kept a close eye on the Telford-born centre forward since his return to the midlands.

He said: “We’re delighted to have signed Liam until the end of the season. He adds fantastic competition up front.

We’ve been patient and we knew there was a possibility he could be available for loan, so we’ve kept in contact with Wolves.

He’s a great lad to work with and is very popular with the other players. It was a no brainer for us.”
