Pilley: Retaining Rosler was Town's best bit of business

Town snapped up Kyle Dempsey, Conor McAleny, Harvey Rodgers, a number of loan deals and development squad players this summer.

But Pilley says the biggest deal was securing Rosler, who was linked with a move back to the Championship, on a deal at Highbury that will keep him at the club until 2020.

Having taken over just before the start of last season, Rosler guided Town to a top-six place in League One and a play-off semi-final.

Pilley said: “There were numerous deals that we managed to secure in the summer but the manager was the key one

“The players are incredibly fit, incredibly focused and very well organised. I think that has been telling in the first three league games.

“We are very young but what we want to be and what we are is that we have a clear philosophy and strategy.

“That strategy is that we will always try to sign players that we think there best years are ahead of them wherever possible.

“It is difficult for a club like Fleetwood to compete and go out and get the very best players in League One so where we see ourselves as is as a club that can help the lads that have fallen out of the Premier League or the lads that are on that real upward climb from League Two or even the non-league.

“We are about developing players. What Uwe does really well is organising them and making sure they are fit.

“As a club we are very keen to stress that it is a collective effort.”
