McDonald keeps tight-lipped on transfer troubles

After struggling to attract new faces to the club, it appears the Pool boss has given up on talking publicly about his plans to strengthen.

Over Christmas he was quoted as wanting “four or five” new faces through the door, though only two have arrived so far.

It’s resulted in the 50-year-old rolling out a standard line of “we are working hard to improve the squad, and if we can we will ” over recent weeks.

But following Saturday’s 5-0 hammering of Scunthorpe, McDonald simply answered “we’ll see” when asked about potential business.

Keeper Lyness impressed in seven loan appearances before the turn of the year, while Seasiders number one Colin Doyle was injured, and Pool are keen to sign the 24-year-old permanently.

Burton boss Nigel Clough revealed on Friday that Pool had agreed terms with both Lyness and his club over a move but wanted to ship out Doyle’s current understudy Kyle Letheren before completing the deal.

But when asked about the move, McDonald was again giving nothing away. “That’s all rumour. We haven’t done any business yet,” was his response.

The Seasiders have been contacting Premier League clubs about the possibility of loaning young stars.

They held talks with Watford last week over striker Uche Ikpeazu, who recently returned from a six-month loan at Port Vale.
