Leading scorers Callum Camps and Paddy Madden have shared 17 this season, though only two of those have been scored since November.

Town have found the net only once in Wiles’ four League One games in charge, though the problem is not new – Joey Barton’s last seven matches yielded three Fleetwood goals.

Camps and Madden both went close in Town’s second successive goalless draw on Tuesday against Northampton Town and Wiles said: “The main positive is that we’ve kept another clean sheet, which is something I’d spoken to the lads about following the Wigan game on Saturday.

“We’ve spoken about little building blocks we’re creating and obviously this is another one. We’ve just got to try to make sure that when we do create those chances we put them away.

“We were much more on the front foot in the first half. We were aggressive with our pressing and we did create a few chances.

“It’s only a matter of time before Camps and Madden start to convert more freely again, so we can go on and get those three points.”

Harrison Holgate has signed a two-year extension to his Fleetwood Town contract, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2023.

The 20-year-old defender, who agreed his first professional deal in 2018, made his EFL debut in this season’s opening-day win over Burton Albion.

Eleven of his 12 senior appearances have been made this season and Holgate has come off the bench twice for interim head coach Simon Wiles, having been recalled from a loan spell at National League Altrincham two weeks ago.

Fleetwood’s Tuesday night fixtures away to Sunderland (February 23) and Lincoln City (March 2) will kick off at 7pm, not 7.45 as previously stated.
