Boss Graham Alexander told The Gazette Fleetwood had moved on to other targets, having made an approach to the former Preston striker at the start of the summer.

Hume spent two months on loan at Highbury at the end of last season, helping Town to promotion.

His contract was not renewed at Deepdale and the 30-year-old is now a free agent, with League Two York City – beaten by Fleetwood Town in the play-off semi finals – understood to be interested.

Alexander told The Gazette: “It was something that we spoke to Humey at the start of the summer.

“He went away and we left it there. Things seem now moved on. I don’t think that will happen now.

“It didn’t really get as far as other possible transfers do.

“But wherever he turns up Humey will add to the quality of the squad.

“He was fantastic for us last season.

“He did a really great job and he was a big part of the late run and the play-offs and winning promotion.

“We thank him for his efforts but I think we have moved on from that and Humey has moved on too.”

Fleetwood’s players returned for training on Wednesday.

A total of 41 first-team stars, development squad players and youngsters were at The Woodlands with only Conor McLaughlin, granted extra time off due to his international stint, absent.

The Northern Ireland international will rejoin the squad on Monday.
