They travel to Rochdale on Saturday in urgent need of points with just four games remaining.

Oldham’s defeat at Barnsley on Tuesday helped Pool’s cause, meaning the Latics are still battling to avoid the fourth relegation spot with Blackpool, Fleetwood and Shrewsbury.

But Pool manager McDonald doesn’t want his players relying on other results.

He said: “We just have to concentrate on our own game and our own results.

“We didn’t deserve anything against Colchester on Saturday and we have to take it on the chin.

“We can only take each game as it comes now. We have to deal with Rochdale on Saturday and see how we do there. We can’t look beyond the Rochdale game now.”

Blackpool have spent the week picking apart Saturday’s poor display against the second-bottom U’s at Bloomfield Road.

Defeats at Rochdale and at Fleetwood seven days later would leave the Seasiders desperately close to the drop, and boss McDonald is anxious to ensure that does not happen.

He said: “We can’t afford any more off-days now.

“We can’t afford to play like we did against Colchester in any of the remaining games and we have to get back to what we were doing before.

“If our results aren’t good, I’m not bothered about any other teams’ results.”
