Blackpool’s goalless draw against Oxford United is another “point in the right direction” according to CJ Hamilton ahead of tomorrow’s clash with the table-toppers.

The Seasiders were unable to convert their domination against Oxford on Saturday into three points, with Neil Critchley’s men forced to settle for a 0-0 draw which saw slip to 13th in League One.

Pool now turn their attention to another Bloomfield Road test against Hull City, who remain top of the pile despite losing 1-0 at home to Shrewsbury Town at the weekend.

Reflecting on Saturday’s result, Hamilton said: “A clean sheet is another positive and it’s another point in the right direction – it’s better than having no points.

“Before the game we knew Oxford don’t concede many goals, so we knew it was going to be hard to break them down. But on another day we win that game easily 3-0 or 4-0.

“Most of the boys in the dressing room are feeling disappointed because we felt we could get all three points.

“But we’re still heading in the right direction, and with plenty of games coming up over the Christmas period we just want to pick up as many points as we can.

“It’s a tough league, everyone is competing and the games we’ve got coming up are all against teams near the top of the table. But we go into those games wanting to take points from them.”

Hamilton could have ended the game with a brace but was thwarted by the woodwork twice.

The 25-year-old clattered the post shortly before the interval before seeing a long-range effort deflect on to the crossbar in the second half.

Hamilton added: “With the two chances I had, I hit the post and I hit the crossbar and there were a couple of incidents near the end as well. It’s frustrating I couldn’t help us get the win.

“There was also the handball in the penalty box which I thought could have been given but obviously the officials didn’t see it.

“We had most of the play throughout the game, so we’re frustrated because we probably should have got the win.

“With my first chance, from where I was standing it was going in but it spun the wrong way off the post.

“On another day it goes the other way and into the back of the net.

“When you get two chances, normally one of them goes in but unfortunately that’s not happened. Hopefully they go in during the games we’ve got coming up.”

Hamilton was Blackpool’s main attacking threat against Oxford, also coming close to grabbing an assist as he pulled the ball back for the onrushing Sullay Kaikai, who unfortunately slipped at the vital moment.

“Me and Sullay have linked up well for a goal a couple of times this season,” Hamilton said. “That’s where most of my assists tend to come from.

“But on this occasion the pitch has given way and Sullay couldn’t hit it properly.”
