Discussing his new deal, the 28-year-old told the club website: "I'm buzzing to get this done and to be staying here for the next few years.

"I love everything about this club and what it represents. Everyone here - the fans, the players, the staff, they're all great and I've always enjoyed my time here.

"I think I've really grown as a player since I first joined the club, both on and off the field. I'm coming to an age now where I'm one of the more experienced players in the dressing room and I think it's up to me to be one of those that takes charge and help the rest of the players when they need it.

"I can't wait to continue building on my time here and hopefully we can all have a successful season."

With his contract originally due to expire in the summer, Hamilton had been linked the likes of Derby County and Huddersfield Town, but his future now seems to be firmly in Tangerine.

So far this season, he has produced a number of big performances for Neil Critchley’s side, scoring twice and providing eight assists in League One.

He’ll be hoping to build on those number heading into the remainder of the campaign.
