Former Blackpool favourite Richard Keogh excited to finish his career with the c...

He’s a great experienced defender and he quickly became a fans’ favourite at Bloomfield Road, didn’t he?

He had a fantastic season last year, so for me it’s a big loss. Not only is he a fantastic defender, he also brought a lot of experience.

He brought the lads together, he was always talking to the lads on the pitch and organising things.

He had a great influence on Marvin Ekpiteta as well. He brought him on leaps and bounds playing alongside him.

It’s disappointing to lose him but I wish him all the best at Ipswich in a new chapter of his career.

It’s been a tough week for Blackpool with back-to-back defeats, albeit one in the cup.

The league is obviously the main priority but getting beat is never nice, regardless of the competition, so they’ve got to bounce back.

They’ve only played two in the league so it’s still early days, they’ve just got to move on quickly.

Last season if you remember Blackpool got off to a slow start under Neil Critchley and sometimes that happens, teams can take a while to get going.

It’s always nice to get that first win under your belt as soon as possible like they did against Reading, but the Championship is tough.

I do think Blackpool will have to make Bloomfield Road a fortress this season because going out on the road to a lot of strong teams is going to be very, very difficult to bring back points.

They’ve got to make Bloomfield Road a place where opposition teams don’t want to come.

They made seven changes for the Barrow game, so results like that can happen in the cup. You only have to look elsewhere to see nine other Championship sides lost to lower league opposition, so they’re not the only one.

Saying that, the players still train with each other every day and they’re Championship players at the end of the day, so they can’t use it as an excuse.

They’ve got to bounce back this weekend when they face a Swansea side who haven’t started the season particularly well either.

You always think from the outside Swansea should be one of those sides who should be in around it because they’re a fantastic footballing side.

But Blackburn went there and smashed them 3-0 last week. I’m from Blackburn and a lot of my friends are Blackburn fans and a lot of them were raising their eyebrows at that result.

They will be looking to bounce back just like Blackpool will, so it could be an intriguing game.

They obviously like to pass the ball and keep hold of it, as we saw at Bloomfield Road last season when Blackpool won 1-0.

I always say though, it’s all well and good having possession but it’s got to be positive and you’ve got to do something with it. There’s no point keeping the ball for the sake of it.

Teams often got fixated with the old Barcelona style, but they kept it with a purpose, they moved it quickly and they were looking for openings.

Sometimes teams get bogged down in keeping the ball and not doing anything.
