Leam Richardson is close to being appointed the manager of Rotherham United, according to reports. The Rotherham Advertiser says that Richardson is 'on the brink' of being appointed, and the appointment could come before the Millers' Championship clash against Swansea City.

The Yorkshire club have been on the hunt for a new manager since sacking Matt Taylor who was relieved of his duties nearly a month ago. Taylor has since been appointed manager of Blackpool's League One rivals Bristol Rovers, but now Rotherham's search looks to be over.

Former Luton Town and Southampton boss Nathan Jones rejected them having taking in two league fixtures, and so it looks like Richardson is the man that will take over the New York Stadium hot seat. Richardson is understood to have held talks with Rotherham this week, and is ready to return to management following a 13-month break following his harsh sacking at Wigan Athletic last year.

The 44-year-old had a brief spell in charge at Accrington Stanley from October 2012 to April 2013, and it wouldn't be until seven-years later that he'd become a manager himself again. He worked as assistant to Paul Cook at Chesterfield, Portsmouth and remained at the DW Stadium after Cook's departure.

He won the League One title with the Latics in 2022, and to date has managed 155 games of football, winning 60, drawing 41 and losing 54 which gives him a 38.71% win percentage. His playing career was spent playing for Bolton Wanderers and later Notts County before joining Blackpool on loan in 2002. He ended up joining the Tangerines on a permanent deal, and was part of the side that won the EFL Trophy in 2004.
