Caley crown seals Lytham double

LYTHAM Ladies sealed a superb double by clinching the Caley Trophy in the most dramatic style.

The Lancashire Central League champions defeated Garstang Ladies 2-1 in the final at Stanley Park.

A tense showpiece was tied at 1-1 until the final ten seconds, when Amy Horrocks made a superb solo run and wrong-footed the keeper for the winning goal.

Gemma Trickett had earlier opened Lytham’s scoring.

The other Lytham side with a final fixture to play on the last weekend of the season were the thirds, who returned from Morecambe Seconds with a 2-1 victory in LCL division two.

Emily Grey and Georgia Raines linked the play well for Lytham to build some threatening attacks, Grace Reddy scoring both goals.

Despite missing out on promotion, captain Liz Hodgson’s side finished a creditable third.

It means the three senior ladies’ tams have all finished in their highest position ever in the league.
