He beat world number 40 Xiao Guodong 4-1 at the Motorpoint Arena and set up a second-round match today with Mark Davis.

“Beating Xiao is a good win after the form I’ve shown this year – it’s only the first round though, so hopefully I can progress from here.
“This season has been terrible especially with how I know I can play, compared to how I’ve actually been playing. I’m getting a few good results here and there but it’s not consistent enough.”
Davis was the man who ended Cahill’s run at the 2014 UK Championship.

“A lot of people think you have to get off to a great start in these best-of-sevens – and obviously I’d rather get off to a good start than a bad one – but even if you’re 2-0 or 3-0 down, you can have a few breaks and easily win 4-3.”
