'Blackpool Bond' Jackson Hulme spies a big future in boxing after making winning start

Hulme, who is trained by former Blackpool pro Matty Ellis and managed by Lytham’s Scotty Cardle, couldn’t quite force a stoppage but was happy with his performance.

“It went really well and I was delighted to get the win,” he told The Gazette. “I would have liked a knockout but that would have just been a bonus.

“I was expecting a tough fight because he’s never been stopped. He’s taken a lot of opponents the distance, so the win was the main thing.

“I was happy with my display – I think I did it in style. The commentators were saying Peter Fury (Tyson’s uncle) had said I was a talented kid with a bright future ahead of me. That’s good to hear people saying that about me.

“Watching the fight back, you could tell there was a lot of adrenaline and I started off quite quick.

“But I felt good, I felt confident and I just wanted to get in there and do the job. I wish I could go back and do it again.”

Hulme, who entered the ring to the James Bond theme tune, is now waiting for news of his next fight.

Asked how it feels to be a professional boxer, Hulme added: “It feels good. I want to try and call myself the ‘Blackpool Bond’.

“It was a great experience and it feels really good to be able to describe myself as a professional boxer.

“At times it doesn’t really sink in, it means that much. To me it doesn’t seem like a big thing, so it’s only when I mention it to other people that I understand how significant it is.

“I just want to provide for my family, so this is just one win ticked off. Now it’s on to the next one and the one after that.

“It was amazing to have so much support. To have all the people cheering when I came out was amazing.”

“It’s what you dream of and it’s what motivates me even more to get stadium fights and to be a champion.

“Now it’s just a case of ticking over and waiting for my next fight.

“I’ve got to learn where I went wrong. I’m always hard on myself and I always want to know where I was going wrong. I want to try to be perfect but – that’s how you progress and win things.”
