The Gazette has chosen not to name the man, who was described as ‘one of the funniest guys’ by friends.

One heartbroken friend said: “I woke up this morning hoping last night was just a bad dream. My heart is broken.

“I will miss you so much. You’ve looked out for me for so many years, so now you can look after me. You’ll be greatly missed.”

Another wrote: “An amazing friend to many, and a big character.”

And one added: “Always in our hearts, big man. Gone but never forgotten. RIP, mate.”
