The mystery of yarn bombing in Highfield Park, South Shore, is unravelled
As the Friends and Volunteers of the park have been busy since last September knitting or crocheting their latest street art – Yarn Bombing – creations, which now decorate the park.
This is the fourth year the group has decorated the park in this way and visitors are still amazed when they enter the park at this time of year, especially the children.

Other comments included Amanda Bailey saying “the kids loved it!” and Julie Vale said: “The volunteers have done a great job. My boys loved it too.”
The volunteers took their inspiration this year from Martina Cushen, who has made many amazing creations with her crochet hook including the ‘Water Fountain’ and ‘Wildlife Zone’.
While other items created in the displays include the popular Teddy Bears Picnic by Edwina Taylor, who also created some of the knitted vegetables for the colourful wheelbarrow put together by Sue Lowe.

Quite a few volunteers also helped put the items up on the trees and in the surrounding area, all to cheer the park visitors up on what can often be a grey and dreary winter’s day.
The displays will be in place on the park for approximately four weeks, so do pop along and take a look.
The group also has more plans for further creations later this year which are currently under wraps, but if you want to join in the fun or find out more, ring Karen on 07905371947 for more information.
