Soulful student singers''¨miracle festive message

Students from Blackpool Sixth Form College and school pupils from across Fylde take part in the recording of a single to raise money for the Children's Society

That’s the message from the talented students at Blackpool Sixth Form College, who put their musical skills to good use with the help of staff, as they penned a heart-warming Christmas hymn to raise cash to improve the lives of the most vulnerable youngsters across the UK.

The song, Christmas Miracle, delivers a hopeful message about how people can help ‘turn the world around’ through their own actions.

College students joined forces with 10 schools from across the Fylde coast, along with community music groups including Poulton Brass Band and Up Beat Music Academy, to sing their hearts out and record the song at the college yesterday. All money raised by the release of the song next month will go towards The Children’s Society, which supports children living in poverty.

Blackpool Sixth music tutor Ash Goodinson, who is co-ordinating the song alongside fellow musician John Stevens, said he had been overwhelmed by the level of support for the project.

He said: “We’ve been bowled over by the level of support we’ve been offered by other schools and the local community in recording, editing and organising this Christmas single project. We all share the same vision and aim to create national awareness of ‘A Christmas Miracle’ to raise money to support the many children in need this Christmas.”

In a statement issued by The Children’s Society, it was revealed that writers chose to focus on the theme of child poverty for the song, as Blackpool has a much higher level of children living in poverty than the rest of the England - 30.6 per cent, compared to the national average of 21.4 per cent and the North West average of 19.2 per cent.

Joanna Hunt, Children’s Society’s deputy area director for the north of England, said: “We’re delighted that Blackpool Sixth Form College is recording this song to raise awareness and support vulnerable children this Christmas.

“Many of our services work with young people affected by some of the most complex problems in society who are often overlooked and ignored. Funds raised from this single will help us transform lives so we’re truly grateful for their support.”

A Christmas Miracle, performed by lead singers Chloeann Foster and Chloe Moyle, will be released on December 1 on iTunes, with all proceeds going to The Children’s Society.
