Scouting around!

The event followed a dinner dance on Friday night at Blackpool FC attended by 270 leaders and supporters of Blackpool District Scout Council.

But on Sunday, it was the turn of the scouts themselves to show off their skills.

More than 1,000 set up a tented village at the park for an afternoon of fun, skills and learning.

They also demonstrated pancake and woggle making as well as their engineering skills.

At 3pm the scouts formed up in the Italian Gardens with their group flags and St George flags.

They were led to the bandstand by the five members of the World Jamboree contingent from Blackpool, who will be attending the worldwide gathering in 
Japan in July.

Twenty-six groups from every section of scouting paraded to the bandstand for the Renewal and Act of Remembrance for St George led by one of the deputy district commissioners for Blackpool, Matthew Hornby.

Victoria De Silva, district commissioner for Blackpool scouts, said: “The sun shone on a glorious day and what a success it was for scouting.

“Just to show the public who we are and what we deliver in outdoor activities and for our ongoing progressive programme for all young people.”
