Lewie Deery, Moesha Ronson, and Karla Bradshaw represented their school, Millfield Science and Performing Arts College, at Youth Speaks, a public speaking competition organised by the Rotary Club.

The trio went up against stiff competition from across Lancashire and Cumbria after making it through the local heats and have now earned themselves a place in the semi-finals, due to be held in Wales next month.

The three finished runners-up in the competition’s district stage with their speech, called ‘Education: Maximising potential’.

English teacher Hannah Morton said: “I am incredibly proud of the pupils. They have worked very hard at both writing this superb speech and rehearsing to perfect their delivery of it.

“We look forward to travelling to Wales and representing the school in the next round.”

Youngsters from across the country take part in Youth Speaks every year.
