£400k cable replacement works to start

The region’s power network operator, Electricity North West, is investing £400,000 to replace and upgrade 3.5km of underground cable between Saltcotes Road in Lytham and Ash Drive in Warton.

On January 4, engineers will start the four- month project to replace 70-year-old cables to help ensure local customers continue to receive a reliable power supply now and in the future.

Paul McGonigle, programme delivery manager for Electricity North West, said: “These underground cables have served the area well since the 1940s but now it’s time they head into retirement and we replace them with new and improved power cables.

“This vital project will benefit thousands of customers along the Fylde coast by keeping the lights on for another 70 years and more.

“We are committed to ensuring that all our customers across the North West receive the power they need now and in the future.”

Coun Sue Fazackerley, Fylde Council leader, said: “Infrastructure work is vital and we appreciate Electricity North West’s commitment to work in ways that will keep disruption to a minimum. I’m sure commuters and residents understand the need for this work.”

“There may be temporary traffic lights in place to allow the work to be carried out safely and advance warning signs will be used to keep motorists informed.

“Where possible work will be carried out at weekends to keep any disruption to a minimum.”
