Work completed on new £500,000 football pitch at Blackpool's Stanley Park

Work has been completed to upgrade facilities with the refurbished floodlit 3G pitch set to meet growing grassroots demand to play football.

At least 80 new teams have been formed in the town in recent years including women’s and girls teams.

Benefits of the 3G pitch include –

• better drainage enabling it to be used all year without getting muddy
• less risk of injury due to underlay which absorbs the impact of falls
• looks and feels like natural grass
• can withstand intensive usage without showing wear and tear
• low maintenance so can be used daily

Coun Jane Hugo, cabinet member with responsibilities for parks, said: “We’re excited to unveil the newly refurbished 3G pitch at Stanley Park, an investment that promises to bring more families and sports enthusiasts into the heart of our award-winning park.

“This investment isn’t just about sports; it’s about creating opportunities for everyone in Blackpool, regardless of age or ability, to engage in outdoor activities and sports.

“We’re committed to providing safe spaces that encourage participation in football and other outdoor-based sports, promoting physical and mental well-being within our community.”

Other sports facilities in the park have also had recent investment with spending of around £310,000 on a new athletics track, and £150,000 allocated to refurbish public tennis courts across Blackpool including in Stanley Park.

New sports pitches have also recently been provided at Common Edge Road, while the Revoe Sports Village on Central Drive will include a full-size 11-a-side artificial grass pitch and a five-a-side artificial grass pitch.
