Blackpool bar proposals set to go before town hall panel

Two objections by residents have been submitted to Blackpool Council in response to a licensing application for premises at 75 Highfield Road.

The operators of JD Drinkwaters Ale House are seeking permission to serve alcohol until 11pm Monday to Wednesday and until midnight Thursday to Friday.

In their submission they say: “The premises is an ex-charity shop which has been refurbished as a bar.

“The premises is situated on a local busy high street that includes shops, retail outlets, restaurants and licensed premises.

“The premises will cater for the local community, serving real ale, televised sporting events and easy listening music.”

But objectors say there are already”enough late drinking venues on Highfield Road” including Highfield Social Club, Winstons and the Farmer’s Arms pub.

They fear the addition of another bar will lead to anti-social behaviour, late night noise and parking issues.

The police have not objected to the application but are seeking conditions including a ban on drinking outside after 10pm, doors and windows must be closed after 10pm and staff must urge customers to leave quietly.

A council licensing panel will be held on Wednesday April 7 to determine the application.
