Police search for tragic beach man’s next of kin

The man in his 50s, who has not yet been named, was discovered by a dog walker near to the pier shortly after 7am yesterday.

Police said the man, who is originally from Blackpool, had not been in the water and that his death is not being treated as suspicious.

Officers said early indications show the man had collapsed and died while out walking.

Residents and holidaymakers out early yesterday said they saw emergency services but never suspected it was because a body had been found.

Holidaymaker Derek Abbitt, said: “We were down here at 7am and there was an ambulance.”

Runner Ruth Williams, 47, from St Annes, said: “I run here most mornings but haven’t seen anything like this before, it’s a shock.”

Dog walker, Catherine Collingwood, yesterday, said: “We went out this morning but all we saw were men in yellow jackets,

“I didn’t know it was the police. It’s very sad.”

Officers are currently trying to contact the man’s next of kin.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “The body of a man in his 50s was discovered on St Annes beach yesterday morning.

“We are not treating his death as suspicious so a file will be passed to the 
coroner.”
