Scouts get green light to rev up their knowledge at the annual Road Safety Competition

Scouts have been given the green light to get on the right road to safety.

Blackpool District Scouts held their Annual Road Safety Competition at the Head Quarters of the 1st Norbreck Scout and Guide Group.

Six troops took part, in teams of up to six, with the competition based on the Highway Code, cycle maintenance, together with a poster drawing, where the scouts connected points on each section of the quiz to decide the overall winners.

The evening’s activities will go towards the scouts gaining their Road Safety Activity Badge, and, is supported by the Scout Association Partner RAC who provide activity sheets to help support the badge.

To gain the badge, scouts had to take part in a number of traffic themed activities.

The winning team was the 1st Norbreck Scout Troop but it was congratulations to all the troops that took part in the competition.

Scouts make a splash

A day at the leisure centre went swimmingly for lots of very happy scouts.

And they all made a splash as they swam and had fun together.

Over 250 young people joined in for a Big Splash in Blackpool.

The District once again came together at the Palatine Leisure Centre, Highfield Road.

Beavers and Explorer scouts took part in lots of races from widths, to fun races, to lengths and both individual and team events.

They were all supported by their leaders and by enthusiastic family members who all excitedly cheered on the swimmers.

The District Council were delighted with the event.

A spokesperson said: “We would like to congratulate all those who took part to make it such a great occasion.

“To the time keepers, staff at the Leisure Centre, and to all the leaders from Blackpool District who made the event possible and so successful.”
