Dad Liam Fletcher, 32, of Southfleet Avenue, Fleetwood, wants to install a sensory room at the school for his son Brodie, five, who was diagnosed with autism when he was two years old.

Mr Fletcher explained that Brodie had global developmental delays, hyper mobility, and was non-verbal until 18 months ago.

Despite his additional needs, Liam and partner Sara Scruton, 41, said they were "incredibly proud" of how Brodie had adapted to mainstream schooling.

"To be totally honest Brodie would not be where he is today without the support and guidance from the team and teachers of Charles Saer school and his support worker Mrs Spencer," Liam said.

"Charles Saer have always made the reasonable adjustments needed throughout Brodies journey of early education and have not failed in anyway shape or form in working toward the goals and action plans outlined in Brodies educational healthcare plan.

"The school have been simply amazing and I really want to be able to say thank you by giving something back."

Now Mr Fletcher aims to raise £10,000 to install the sensory room, starting with a 10k run in May, and a 15,000 ft sky dive in July.

He said he hoped donations would help him to reach his goal as soon as possible, and had the full support of Charles Saer school and other parents.

Carolyn Thackway, headteacher at the Grange Road school, said: "Brodie is a delightful little boy, and his family have been so supportive since he started the school.

"We try to provide a sensory environment for all children here, as we have a number who have additional needs.
