Blackpool and St Annes town criers come out ringing for NHS heroes

The town crier's for Blackpool and St Annes have dusted off their uniforms and bells after a few weeks of lockdown to show their support for the 'Clap For Carers' on Thursday

Blackpool’s town crier Barry McQueen joined in the clap at 8pm by playing his trumpet and ringing his bell while wearing his full crier uniform.

Barry, who has been the resort’s town crier for 20 years, said: “It all started a few weeks ago when I came out and started clapping and then thought I’m going to get my bell and trumpet and I have done it each week since then.

“It’s all for a good reason, the NHS, and what a fantastic job all those staff are doing across the country."

St Annes’ Town Crier John Spencer-Barnes also tweeted on Thursday night that he was making a proclamation from outside his home in Dolphinholme near Lancaster to pay tribute to key workers and he also wore his crier uniform for the clap.
