"The Diaries of the Corona Kids 2020" is the latest book in the pipeline by Chris Hillman, 70, a dad of three and grandad of seven from Selside in Cumbria.

The book aims to document the thoughts and feelings of children and their families nationally during the coronavirus pandemic, as a lasting reminder of how life has changed during the crisis.

All proceeds will go towards creating "Me Time Grants" for key workers across the UK, in the form of treats such as days out or hotel stays for nominated key workers.

The children involved in the project will be given the opportunity to have a say on how the proceeds are distributed, and can nominate a key worker within their own region.

Chris said: "I'm writing this book to document the ways in which children and their families are adapting to life during this crisis, because the children will be living with the effects of this for the longest.

"Human interaction during this should be remembered, we're living in history. I'll be asking families about how they feel, how things have changed for them, and finding out how this has affected different people in different areas.

"What is the pandemic like for children living near the beach or countryside like in comparison to children in high-rise buildings in a city? I want this to be an opportunity for children to share their feelings."

Three years ago, Mr Hillman received life-saving treatment from cardiologists at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, after he underwent a double bypass and a mitral valve repair.

Since then, he has penned another book titled "This old heart of mine," describing his surgery journey and spending time at Blackpool Vic amongst NHS staff to find out more about the Cardiac Centre.

Chris said: "Although I live near Kendal, I was referred to Blackpool's Cardiac Centre, it's one of the best centres of cardiology in the world.

"They saved my life. I was in and out for treatment for over two years and I have never seen a group of doctors and nurses so dedicated and passionate.

"I have a true passion for life now thanks to them, that's why I'm doing this. I want the Fylde coast to get involved, we should capture this moment in history through our children's eyes."

Parents and children can contribute by writing their accounts, or by using more creative methods such as poetry or artwork.
