New 80 homes plans lodged for farmland

Wainhomes has applied to Fylde Council to construct 80 new homes and 1,500 m2 of offices on land off Cropper Road in Westby.

The plans follow a scheme to build 145 properties and a shop which was passed in September – and comes as another application for 26 homes on Moss Farm on Cropper Road is heard by councillors on Wednesday.

If the council approves all applications, more than 250 properties could be built on the land in the coming years.

Westby Coun Julie Brickles said Fylde faced several issues relating to overdevelopment.

She added: “I think the infrastructure problems including flooding and drainage.

“Problems which are not being assessed properly. I do feel that quite strongly.

“That area (Cropper Road) is not sustainable. I could not live there.

“There is no easy access to shops or healthcare – that is a fact.”

But in a planning document by Sedgewick Associates submitted to Fylde Council on behalf of Wainhomes, it said the application would help to enhance the area.

It added: “There are no highway or transportation issues that preclude the development of up to 80 dwellings and offices.

“The scheme will enhance biodiversity and respond to climate change;

“The end result will significantly enhance the visual appearance of the locality.”
