Key Blackpool bridge re-opening today
Squires Gate Bridge will re-open to traffic at 7pm today after engineers completed work to replace the structure ahead of schedule.
The major South Shore route was due to re-open on March 23, then the date was bought forward to this Friday but now highways chiefs are to re-open it later today.Work on the £2.1m scheme began on November 7 and has seen the majority of the old bridge demolished.
This included the removal of corroded support beams from the bridge deck.
Engineers have installed new kerbs, lighting columns and a new road surface.
The work is part of Blackpool’s £11.3m bridge project to repair 10 of the town’s key bridges.
