Help the Winter Gardens cast Toto in their production of The Wizard Of Oz

The producers of the Winter Gardens’ festive musical The Wizard Of Oz are today launching their Search For Toto, to find a pooch to join Holly Tandy as Dorothy on the yellow brick road.

Two lucky dogs will join ex-Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher, as the Tin Man, and the X Factor’s Holly at the Opera House in the RSC adaptation of timeless classic.

A spokesman said: “Kelvin Fletcher and Holly Tandy are set for the yellow brick road heading to the Emerald City for an unforgettable adventure, but Dorothy won’t be going anywhere without her loyal companion, Toto.

“Is your dog the right fit to join Dorothy and become her faithful pooch this Christmas in hit musical The Wizard Of Oz at the Opera House Blackpool?

“We’re sending out a call for all dogs big or small, young or old, hairy or bald, to audition for the chance to star in the North West’s biggest Christmas musical.”

Two dogs will be cast as Toto, to alternate the part between performances, and their winning owners will receive £500 to cover expenses.

Enter your dog at, with full terms and conditions, including a video of them ‘at their most impressive, either performing a trick or obeying a command.’

Roadshow auditions will also take place across Lancashire, in Preston on Tuesday, August 7, Blackburn on August 8, Lancaster on August 9 and Blackpool on August 10, with a grand final at the Winter Gardens on World Dog Day - Sunday, August 26 - where guest judges will make their selection.
