Horsing around to raise money for rescue cause

Penny Farm hosted a fun-packed day for the horse rescue charity – and landed £8,000.

The World Horse Welfare centre, on Preston New Road at Peel, works to improve the lives of horses, taking in mistreated animals, treating them, and helping rehome them.

Centre visitor officer Zoe Clifford said: “There was a fantastic turnout to support the event – the people of the Fylde are fabulous supporters of World Horse Welfare and its great that so many people came along and helped us to raise more than £8,000 which will go directly to help the ever-increasing number or horses who need to be rescued from welfare situations.

“We are really grateful for their support.”

In glorious weather, visitors were entertained by demonstrations throughout the day including rescued ponies taking part in an agility course, dog agility, and a spectacular stunt show by Atkins Action Horses.

“We were also really pleased to welcome back Lancashire Mounted Police to the show,” added Zoe. “Visitors love to see the police horses in action and the team led by Sgt Chris Driver treated the audience to a great show.”.

Other entertainment included a farriers competition, Saxon archers, and pig racing.
