Fine after dog attack in street

Coun Albert Pounder said dog owners have a “responsibilty” to ensure they their dogs do not pose a threat to the community.

His warning comes after a woman was attacked by a German Shepherd as she made her way to a friends house.

She was left with a puncture wound and bruising to her back that required dressing and antibiotics.

The dog’s owner – Julie Parkinson, also of Freckleton – appeared before a District Judge at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, where she was fined £150 and ordered to pay £200 compensation to the victim.

Magistrates also gave her a three-year Contingent Destruction Order requiring her to keep the dog muzzled and on a lead when in a public place, except when with an adult in a car, for the next three years, because of her guilty plea.

Coun Pounder said: “This was a serious incident that prompted the judge to comment that dogs are a potentially serious weapon that have to be controlled.”

Parkinson, pleaded guilty to a charge of being the owner of a dog that was out of control in a public place and, that while out of control, it caused injury to a third party.
