Martin Costello, 66, assault

A pensioner kicked a woman friend up the backside after menacing her with a knife.

Martin Costello, 66, of Chepstow Road, Grange Park, pleaded guilty to assault.

Prosecutor Andrew Robinson said the woman victim had known Costello about three years and sometimes went round to his home.

On August 24 at noon, Costello and the woman had a drink of vodka and lemonade.

The woman said she asked Costello if she could use his phone to call her daughter and he agreed.

She said after the call his mood changed and he got a knife from the kitchen, put the blade against her stomach, and pushed.

As she pulled away, she described Costello as booting her hard up the backside with his foot.

Michael Woosnam, defending, said the woman sometimes cadged drink, cigarettes, money and a place to sleep for the night from Costello.

The day of the offence, Costello has asked her to leave but she came into the kitchen where he was using a knife to cut up food for his meal.

He again said she must leave and as she moved reluctantly towards the door he applied his foot to her bottom and pushed.

Costello had his case adjourned for a hearing at which evidence from both the prosecution and defence will be heard.

Gavin Layard, 42, begging

A man has been fined £80 for begging offences in Blackpool town centre.

Gavin Layard, 42, of Derby Road, admitted 11 offences. He must also pay £50 costs.

Magistrates were told that Layard had started to work with the authorities and had turned his former lifestyle round.

Tanya Wright, 33, child neglect

A St Annes woman has appeared at court charged with child neglect.

Tanya Wright, 33, of Clover Avenue, denied the offence at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

She was bailed pending her trial at the court on May 11.The child cannot be identified for legal reasons.

Colin Lemieux, 59, rape and indecent assault

A Blackpool man has appeared at court charged with five offences of raping young girls.

Colin Lemieux, 59, is alleged to have committed the offences in Blackpool and Manchester between 1989 and 1994.

He was also charged with indecently assaulting a girl.

Magistrates sent him for trial at Preston Crown Court where he will appear on March 25. He was bailed.

Nicholas Kistner, 32, manufacturing indecenty images of children

A man has been put on the Sex Offenders’ Register after admitting manufacturing indecent images of children – some at the most depraved level.

Nicholas Kistner, 32, of Chesterfield Road, North Shore, pleaded guilty to three charges of making indecent pictures of children.

Kistner made 29 photographs at the most depraved level of pictures, 30 photographs at a lower level of indecency and 87 of the least indecent photographs.

The offences took place in Wyre between April 17 and 18 last year.

Prosecutor Andrew Robinson asked for the case to be sentenced at crown court.

Kistner was bailed to appear for sentence at Preston Crown Court on March 25 and put on the Sex Offenders’ Register.

Emma Gill, 23, breach of community order

A woman who only did one hour’s unpaid work out of 70 imposed by Blackpool Magistrate has been re-sentenced .

Emma Gill, 23, of Coronation Street, Blackpool, admitted breaching her community order punishment given to her after she was convicted of burglary.

Gill’s lawyer Steven Townley said his client had produced sick notes stating she was unfit for outdoor group work.

Magistrates gave her another community order with 20 rehabilitation days and a nominal £10 fine.

James Smith, 29, breach of restraining orderA man has breached a court order which forbids him going onto the street where his grandmother lives for the fifth time.

James Smith turned up at her addresss inMarton after a drinking binge.

A bag containing his money had been stolen from him and he wanted cash to get back to his home on Warrenhurst Road, Fleetwood.

Blackpool magistrates heard that police were called to his gran’s address after he banged on her door and shouted at her. Smith, 29, admitted breaching a restraining order for the fifth time.

He was given 26 weeks’ jail suspended for a year.

He must do 15 rehabilitation days.
