Retired firefighter in court after food row

Peter Clark moaned about her not making him any food when he returned home from drinking, then hurled her plate in the sink smashing it.

Clark, 50, of Rosefinch Way, Marton, pleaded guilty to breach of the peace.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said police got a report of a domestic incident at the defendant’s address on March 6, about 5.20pm.

Clark’s partner said he had returned to the house and been abusive to her, asking why she had not made him any food. He then picked up a plate with her food on and threw it in the sink. It smashed and the girlfriend was hit by fragments, but not injured.

An officer who arrived at the address saw food on the floor and spilt milk. Clark refused to leave. He pointed his finger at the officer and said “Don’t ask me to listen.”

Clark told magistrates: “I had had a drink, but I was not drunk. I regret what I did. It got out of hand. I am embarrassed to be stood here. I have just retired after 30 years in the fire service.”

Clark was bound over in the sum of £100 for 12 months by resort magistrates.
