The trial of a Blackpool mum accused of murdering her seven-week-old baby daughter has come to a halt.

Laura Langley, 37, is accused of killing her daughter Edith after the newborn suffered multiple rib fractures at her home in the seaside resort.

But after two weeks of evidence the jury in the trial were dismissed from Preston Crown Court on Tuesday (October 24).

A spokeswoman for the Crime Prosecution Service confirmed a new trial had been fixed for April 15, 2024.

The reason the trial was halted is not yet known.

Preston Crown Court has been approached for comment.

Emergency services were called to Langley’s in Belgrave Road, Marton, at around 3.55am on November 20, 2020.

Edith was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead at 4:53am.

Langley denies murder and child cruelty.
