Hide AdDefence lawyer, Tony Birchall, said his client, who had no previous convictions, studied at Myerscough College during the week and worked at the Stoke City ground at weekends. It had been Halloween the evening before the accident and Smith had been the designated driver to take some friends to a club in Preston.
On the way back it was foggy and Smith accepted that although he was not speeding he had taken a bend too fast for the weather conditions and lost control.
