The public have been warned not to approach the 6ft 2in patient, who police said needs daily medication for his condition.

Instead, they have been urged to call officers, who admitted they are ‘concerned’ for Mr Mullen’s safety.

Possible sightings have been reported near Yates on the Prom, and Highfield Leadership Academy, in Highfield Road, both in South Shore, and are being investigated.

Mr Mullen had left The Harbour at 11.40am on Thursday but failed to return at an agreed time, a spokesman for Blackpool Police said.

He was wearing a grey Lonsdale hooded top, black shorts, and white trainers.

He had light brown hair and a beard.

The spokesman said: “Mark needs daily medication to manage his mental health and we are understandably concerned for his welfare.

“It is possible Mark could have travelled to Preston, Lancaster, or anywhere within the north west.

“Anyone who sees Mark should not approach him and instead call police on 101, quoting log reference LC-2016-07-28-1092.”
