‘Dangerous’ thug stabbed victim twice

A “dangerous” criminal who stabbed his victim twice in the chest and was later seen waving a large knife around in a pub has been jailed for more than four years.

Aaron Roberts, 29, was described in Preston Crown Court as having shown a 
propensity to carry a knife and use it.

Roberts attacked a man by punching him at a house in St Annes where they and others had met up.

After that he went on to stab the same man twice, causing puncture wounds to the chest, which had to be treated in hospital.

Preston Crown Court heard that about six months later, in May this year, Roberts became involved in an incident at the Clifton Arms pub in Warton where he waved around a large kitchen knife.

Roberts, of Park Road, St Annes, had pleaded guilty to offences of wounding and theft over the attack last November and also admitted affray relating to the knife scene at the pub.

In 2006 he was given a six years sentence for wounding with intent. Peter Barr, prosecuting, said that on November 11 last year, the victim had gone round to an address on Blundell Road, St Annes.

The defendant’s half brother was also there.

Some goading appeared to take place between the victim and Roberts’ half brother. As a result, the defendant was asked to go round. The defendant’s half brother went on to punch the victim in the face.

Things calmed down after that, but Roberts himself got on top of the victim and punched him to the head.

Roberts then went on to take a knife from his waistband and stab the victim twice in the chest. The defendant took an iPod and about £240 cash with him when he left.

The affray happened on May 17 this year at the Clifton Arms pub. The landlord was told that someone had a knife.

He patted down Roberts, but no knife was found.

When a second person 
reported that the defendant had a knife, the landlord asked him to leave.

While being escorted out Roberts suddenly pulled a large kitchen knife from his clothing and started waving it around. It was thought the blade was around eight inches long.

Roberts was given a total jail term of 58 months, with 13 weeks on top from a previously suspended sentence.

As she passed sentence, the judge, Recorder Fiona Ashworth, told him he was “clearly a very dangerous individual.”
