Wyre Cricket Club, based at Cottam Hall Sports Grounds in Poulton, fears it is the latest of a number of vandal incidents there.

Last year there were so many incidents of damage at the club it was feared the vandalism might even undermine the club’s precious place in the Palace Shield Cricket League.

The latest damage is believed to have occurred late on Tuesday night.

Club member David Wright said: " We have discovered that our new cricket pitch covers, which are less than a year old, have been affected with a significant amount of damage.

"One of the covers have come away from the frame as a result of the damage.

"It is very frustrating for the club when we are trying to provide an amenity for local people."

Mr Wright said police had been informed of the incident.

He said the club was appealing for people in the Poulton area to be vigilant and report any damage by calling 101 or to call 999 if a crime is taking place.

The grounds and pavilion building are owned by Wyre Council and hired out for use by both Wyre Cricket Club and Blackpool Ladies FC.
