The red and black Cube bicycle, similar to the one pictured right, was taken from a garage in Kerslea Road after thieves prised panelling off a door at some point between 10pm on Thursday and 7am on Wednesday, police said.

The theft is being linked to several other break-ins that took place during the same period – although nothing else is thought to have been taken.

Two garages in Highcross Road were also searched, as were garages in Carr Head Lane and Oldfield Carr Lane.

Police said the burglars fled empty-handed after getting into a garage in Highcross Road and being disturbed.

Sgt Danielle Freaney said: “We would like to remind everyone to ensure all doors and windows to out buildings, sheds and garages are secured, if not in use and that if anyone sees suspicious activity or persons then 101 should be called or 999 in an emergency.”
