A drunk driver caught behind the wheel of his Mercedes with a bottle of champagne told police he was taking his wife to the emergency dentist.

Endurance Aneni, of Church Street, was stopped less than a mile from his home after officers found him veering across two lanes in Chapel Street in the early hours of December 30.

Blackpool Magistrates heard how officers spotted an open bottle of champagne in his car but the 40-year-old had refused to provide a roadside breath test.
