Bispham man Leon Mellad assaulted 17-year-old girl after following her home from nightclub

A Bispham man assaulted a teenage girl after he followed her home from a night out.

Leon Mellad, 22, of Red Bank Road, met the 17-year-old at a nightclub in town before following her all the way home to Lytham in the early hours of the morning.

The teenage girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told police she became afraid of him after he refused to leave her alone.

She made it safely home to her grandparents’ house where she was staying the night, but a drunken Mellad turned up shortly afterwards and began hammering on the door.

He demanded to see the girl and when her grandfather answered, Mellad attacked both him and his granddaughter.

In a rage, he punched and kicked the man while the girl, fearing for her life, locked herself in another room and called police.

Officers attended and Mallard was arrested and taken into custody.

He appeared at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday, March 14) where he admitted assaulting the girl and assault causing actual bodily harm to her grandfather.

Mellad was refused bail and was remanded to appear for sentencing at Preston Crown Court on Tuesday, April 25.
