It was taken from Wyre Council's depot on Copse Road, Fleetwood, at around 1.30pm yesterday, after the family had paid the authority to set it in place at their chosen location.

The police have been informed and CCTV footage of the incident has been passed on to them.

Wyre says it only installs these benches on its promenades, around the boating lakes or in its parks.

A council spokesman said: "If you notice one of these benches appearing in a back garden, installed in an unusual location or find one which has been dumped, we would be grateful if you could let us know.

“This bench was being stored at our Copse Road depot in Fleetwood, ready for it to be installed in the family’s chosen location.

"We are going to replace the bench for the family and install it soon.

"However, we would still like to recover it, so we are appealing for residents to keep an eye out for the bench.”
