Blackpool hotels vie for national awards

Six Blackpool B&Bs are in line to win top national titles.

The Derby on Derby Road, the Grosvenor View on King Edward Avenue, the The Fylde International on Palatine Road, The Chesterfield Pet Friendly Hotel on Wellington Road, The Kings on New South Promenade and the Oasis Guesthouse on Dickson Road are all up for either the Hidden Gem or Budget with a Twist categories in the 2018 Eviivo Awards, the “Oscars” of the independent accommodation sector.

After a grilling by the judges in tetheh online booking site -run competition, they will find out if they have won on October 16 at Quaglino’s, London.

The competition,in its fifth year, recognises the best of the UK’s world class B&Bs, guest houses, inns, serviced apartments, self-catering units and small independent hotels from all over the country.

Ivan Varney, who runs The Derby with Tim Wayne, said: “At the Derby we work so hard to give our guests a fantastic and unique experience. We are absolutely delighted to have that recognised through this shortlisting.”

Judge, consultant and mentor to the hospitality sector, Yvonne Halling said: “Running a B&B in the 21st century is demanding and requires multiple skills, hard work and dedication - these awards help to shine a light on and identify the finest.”

David Weston, fellow judge and chairman of the Bed & Breakfast Association said: “With over 1,000 B&Bs opening since 2015, it is great to see that the sector is enjoying a revival. These brilliant B&Bs offer a glimpse of the fantastic range of accommodation this country has to offer its visitors, whether they be domestic or international.”
