Debbie Summersgill and others from St Mary’s Church produced “The Mellor Recipe Book”, costing £10 each, in time for the Mellor Christmas Fair, held earlier this month.

Lancashire’s new Bishop, Rt Rev Julian Henderson, attended the launch of the cookbook, which contains 70 recipes from parishioners and other locals, as part of a series of stops in the area for his latest “Deanery Day”.

The Diocese of Blackburn, which covers the whole of Lancashire, is split into 14 “deaneries” from Tunstall Deanery in the north to Chorley Deanery in the south and from Blackpool Deanery in the west to Whalley Deanery in the east. Mellor comes under Whalley Deanery.

The Bishop will visit all 14 deaneries for one day each in the period to the end of 2013 and for three days each in the new year.

During the Deanery Days the bishop is visiting local parishes and schools and will meet key local figures.

While in Whalley Deanery, as well as attending the cookbook launch the Bishop’s itinerary included visits to Clitheroe Foodbank and the local Christians Against Poverty (CAP) centre; stopping off to pull some pints and meet the locals at the Dog Inn in Whalley; a visit to St Leonard’s School, Langho and a meeting with the Ribble Valley Mayor Coun. Richard Sherrras at the council offices in Clitheroe.

The Rt Rev. Julian Henderson and local parishioners celebrate the launch of the new cookbook. (s)
