Band star joins in praise for Proms

That was the message to concert organisers after the first-ever Lytham Proms festival weekend was declared a massive boost for the town.

It was the first time concerts have been held on Lytham Green over three consecutive nights, and thousands flocked to see superstars Status Quo, Katherine Jenkins and Boyzone take to the stage.

And the event – organised by St Annes based Cuffe and Taylor Event Management – provided a massive boost for Lytham’s night-time economy, with pubs and restaurants reaping the benefits.

Even Boyzone’s lead singer Ronan Keating was impressed by the town, posting on Twitter: “Great show in Lytham. Brilliant audience.”

Coun David Eaves, leader of Fylde Council, said: “All I can say is wow – how do we top that? It was an absolutely tremendous weekend, it brought thousands of people into Lytham and all the shops, restaurants and hotels were full.

“There was tremendous atmosphere on the Green with everyone enjoying themselves.

“It really just lit Lytham and the Fylde up.”

A firework display rounded Saturday night off, watched by the concert crowd as well as hundreds of onlookers on the outside of the fences.

And Robert Silverwood, vice-chair of Lytham Enterprise Group, praised those behind the event and now hopes fans who enjoyed the gigs will return to the town.

He said: “Boyzone said they’d had a really good time in Lytham and a good wander round.

“It’s got to be positive for Lytham, it’s the invisible thing of people coming back which people don’t see.

“I’m very pleased and very grateful to Peter Taylor and Daniel Cuffe (the organisers) for putting their neck on the line, and I hope they’ve made enough money and enjoyed it enough to bring something back again next year.”

The council brought the Proms back to Lytham Green for one night last year, when Lesley Garrett performed.
