A blooming great celebration

St Thomas Church, St Annes was a glorious splash of colour as a four-day flower festival to celebrate a double anniversary proved a huge success,

The festival to mark the 115th birthday of the church and 55 years since the Lytham St Annes Floral Society was formed covered four days and raised more than £3,300.

The money is being split evenly between church funds and the Home-Start Blackpool and Fylde charity.

The event included two concerts – one by the choirs from Lytham St Annes Technology and Performing Arts College, St Thomas, Clifton and Ansdell primary schools and the other by Lytham Community Choir – along with a Saturday market featuring a variety of stalls and organiser Glenys Markland said: “The festival was a great success and thanks to everyone who supported it.”

Rev Chris Scargill, vicar of St Thomas, said: “The church looked wonderful and we were delighted to welcome so many visitors.

“The festival fitted in perfectly with our vision for the church - that it is not just for the people who attend services every Sunday but offers something for the whole community. We hope many other such events will follow.”
