Amelia takes action against litter louts

Amelia Brookes, 10, from North Shore, collected rubbish on her street as part of her Cub Scout work towards the World Challenge Award.

Part of this badge involves identifying and completing an activity that benefits the local community so she decided to do her bit to help tidy up her local area.

Amelia is a member of 51st Blackpool Cub Scouts, which is based at St Stephen-on-the-Cliffs on Holmfield Road, in North Shore.

She said: “I am hoping to lead by example and hopefully it will encourage others not to litter and maybe to help.”

Blackpool Scout leaders have been encouraging youngsters to continue with their Scouting activities via video calls during lockdown.

Vikki Picton, akela at 51st Blackpool, said: With her litter picker and bin bag, Amelia walked down the street where she lives and collected a lot of rubbish

“It is great to see the Cubs continuing to work towards their badges at home whilst we are unable to meet face to face. All sections continue to meet every Monday night on Zoom and

cover a variety of badge work.”
