The rotting hulks of old boats were captured decayed in the sands of Fleetwood Marsh Nature Park and are still there. The boats have been rusting and rotting away since the 1960s and 1970s. Some are the remnants of fishing boats and others, according to locals, are the skeletons of whaling boats after the practice was banned in the 1970s. Another maritime graveyard can be found three miles inland along the Wyre at Skippool Creek. The former docks is now home to other abandoned and run-down vessels.
